First ER visit as a parent

Nora woke us up around 2am Thursday morning with horrible sounding breathing and cough. We called the dr on call and she agreed that she sounded bad enough we should take her to the emergency room. She sounded quite a bit better by the time we got there. She was excited because she got a bracelet, a glowy finger, and orange juice (laced with a steroid). Croup was the diagnosis.

Wednesday evening, the oral steroid wore off and we didn't like the way her breathing looked so I took her to urgent care. She was excited that she got a glowy toe and "turtle medicine like Maya" (aka nebulizer).

She had a follow pediatrician visit today. She finally seems over it.

Maya starts school school (preschool) and her first haircut

9/2
Maya and I went to a meet and greet at her preschool today. She wrote Mrs. K a letter that said I will bring my smile and drew a picture of her with her crazy hair on the back in response to a postcard Mrs. K sent to her. I wish I had taken a photo of it before Maya sealed it. She was so excited to give it to her today and to play with all the new toys. I think Maya is going to love school. While we were at school, Nora and Derek went to gym. Afterwards, we dropped Derek off at work and Maya asked to go get her hair trimmed. So we did. I was a little concerned when the lady combed out all the curls and then started chopping. Next time I may look for someone who has more experience with curly hair. But it's still long and curly but easier to manage. In the afternoon, we went to the park to cool off. Nora loves her big sister. She may be lost when Maya is in preschool.

Today was Maya's first day of school. It's a coop preschool so I get to be in the classroom today and about every other week. I was lucky and was a volunteer today. It helped Maya and I ease into it.

18 months and 4.5

Nora turned 18 months on the 20th and Maya turned 4.5 on the 22nd. Nora had her well baby check on the 21st. She is 33 inches (I think this is a generous measurement which I think is common when they measure them lying down). She was 21 lbs and 9 oz. That's up only about 5 oz in the last three months. We are now on operation fatten Nora up but this is kind of tricky when she doesn't really want to eat. Nora is really talking these days. Her favorite thing to say is "no want to" (I imagine this is the favorite phrase of all toddlers). She seems to be more shy than Maya was at this age. I guess that's not terribly surprising because Maya is... well Maya. Maya is as exuberant as ever. She starts preschool in a couple of weeks and is supper excited.

I made Nora pass the bear to Maya for a few shots.

 Nora was not impressed

And she quickly reclaimed the bear
