17 Months

Maya at 17 months: She talks all the time, unless someone other than Derek or me speaks to her. She provides a running commentary on her life. She wants to touch everything and say touch while doing it. She begs me to cut her nails because that's the only time she gets to watch tv. She loves to read and sing. She likes to spin, slide, dig in the sand/dirt/rocks, and play in the pool/tub/ocean. If she sees her swimsuit, she's like suit, suit, pool, outside. If we get dressed to leave the house, she asks to go to church or the beach. When she talks about church it's usually, church, sing, class, her teachers name, and sometimes pray. It's impossible to keep her quiet during worship but after the service when people talk to her she clams up. She can count to 2. She can stack 4 blocks. She can play outside or with her little.people for hours. There is currently a potato in my bathroom floor. She still enjoys nursing. She's ask for one side, nurse for a few minutes, then ask for the other side. She offers to share her milk with her toys. I've nurse a dog, bear, doll, etc in recent weeks. She's a fan of mo or e'mo even though she's never seen s street. She's afraid of fans. She thinks they are hot since we tell her not to touch. When she sees the grill she says hot, touch, no. She is hilarious. She is a lot of fun. She is a sweetie.

Slide!

Last Wednesday night we bought Maya a slide. She played with it when we got it home. But didn't seem to remember it was there the next day.

In case you don't speak the Maya language that's: step, leaf, hot, hot,..., hot, hot, ouch, ouch, ouch, slide, slide, wee, wee, slide, slide, slide, slide, slide, wee, wee, wee, slide, more, shut, wee, slide, slide,..., slide, help, ouch

sit, oh boy, oh boy, shoes, dogs, knee, dogs, dogs, oh boy, I slide, I sit, I slide

Any guesses as to what she's saying in this one? It's more. The only reason we know that is because she frequently signs more when she says it. Cracks me up.

No toddlers were injured in the making of this film:

yes, climb, yes, yes, please, please, please, yes

She's much better at climbing now, thankfully.

A Bike, the Grandparents, and the 4th

Derek's parents came out last Friday and stayed a week. Maya enjoyed having more people around to read to her and take her for walks. She liked to hold on to two hands, take a few steps, then switch people. On Saturday, we went to the beach. Just like last time, Maya loved it. With the sand to dig in and the water to splash in, she thinks it's great. On Sunday, we picked up a used "bike" for Maya. It was a good deal ($15) and I had been looking for more outdoor toys. She seems into it since Derek usually rides his bike with his hat to work. She hasn't quite figured out how to push it forward, but she can ring the bell and go backwards. On Tuesday, Maya's last molar finally cut through. She's been sleeping a lot better this week, only waking once and giving us 7 hours at a time. Also on Tuesday, I picked up the fp little people house off of the clearance rack. I was originally planning on getting it for her birthday or Christmas but couldn't pass up the deal. And then she found it in the garage and I'm a sucker. She's really enjoyed it so far. It has a potty in the bathroom that makes a flushing sound. She thinks it's great. She kept trying to stick her little bottom in there saying potty and flush. Ah, funny stuff that will embarrass her one day. This combined with her general obsessed with the toilet right now, we decided to pick her up a little potty on Wednesday. She likes to sit on it for a few seconds, carry it around, make her toys sit on it. She also tried to wear it as a hat and put her feet in it. Wednesday, we also grilled out. Then that night went to watch fireworks. Maya loved them. She kept saying pretty, boom, ball kick. She was so mesmerized by them she sat still in my lap and almost fell asleep watching them. Then she wanted milk. She fell asleep on the way home but it was several hours later than she normally goes down. We were afraid she would be cranky Thursday.

In the true fashion of our family, it's not a holiday until someone gets sick. I started feeling bad during the fireworks and was sick overnight through the morning. I still felt tired and not really into food into the evening but felt much better after sleep. Maya was cranky on Thursday but we were hoping it was just lack of sleep from the night before. But then she woke up every two hours or so, didn't want me to put her down, and I noticed she felt warm. She spent half the night sleeping on top of me, wouldn't let me move her without screaming. She's had a fever all day. It's been really high tonight and drugs aren't doing much to it. She doesn't seem to be having the tummy trouble I was so we aren't sure what's going on. She's just been a little whiny and clingy. She cried multiple times today to go to the beach. She would say beach, beach, shoes, beach. So pitiful. I'm guessing she didn't feel well and probably had a fever on Thursday. I feel bad for not checking sooner.

16 Months

I guess I'm two weeks late with this but here it is anyway. Her smirk, smile, feeding her bear, and giving kisses through the fence at 16 months.

I keep thinking I should do a list of words she says, but it keeps increasing at a rate that I can't keep up with. Recently she's even started putting two words together, like all done, our house, Maya's chair, mom's hat. She loves to climb, push toys around, fill bags/buckets/baskets/coolers with toys then carry them around, dig in rocks/sand/dirt, rock on her horse, read books, and play in the water.
