Nora's 11 weeks old

5/8
Nora is transitioning from newborn to infant to me. She's found her hands. She spends a lot of time looking at them. She can control them enough to brush them against stuff on her tummy. She's also starting to get control of her legs. It's no longer just random kicking. It's more intentional movement that she can't quite control. Tonight after her bath she was kicking her legs around and kept kicking herself in the face. She can roll from back to her side. If you hold her in the reclined position she's doing baby crunches trying to sit up. She's too little for that isn't she? Can't she slow down.

We've stopped swaddling Nora for the "s word". She usually gives us a 6-8 hour stretch. (Just don't tell her pediatrician that we sometimes let her go 8)

Nora's been kind of a grouch the last few days. Not wanting to sleep. Not wanting to stay asleep if I do get her to sleep and put her down. I think Maya is missing her mom time but is doing well.

Tea Party

5/5
Nora took a long nap in her swing this morning. Maya and I took the time to make muffins and then have a tea party.

Nora is 10 weeks old

5/1
Nora is ten weeks old. Some of our friends decided to go to the beach today since it was hot. I decided that it sounded like too much work so we would just go to a park with a water play area. I didn't mention the beach to Maya. I packed her swimsuit, towels, picnic lunch, etc. She didn't see me pack anything other than the lunch. I asked her if she wanted to go to the park. She said, "yes. With our friends?" I reply "no not with friends." She says "are we going to the beach?" Bah. So I throw the tent into the van and we head to the beach. About halfway there I hit something. Not sure what but I think to myself "man I hope I don't get a flat tire." We get almost there and a warning light comes on. I call Derek to find out what it was/if I should stop and take care of it. Turns out it was the tire pressure. We get to the beach. We find our friends, feed Nora, get settled. The tire is then to flat to drive anywhere. A friend and a nice gentleman put on the spare while I watch 3/4 of the kids since Nora was clingy. I reluctantly agreed. They found a screw in the tire. The spare didn't have enough air so I had to find a local place. This wouldn't have been a problem but I didn't have data service on my phone. I'm not sure how many frantic calls Derek got that day. I didn't even want to go to the beach. Thankfully, we all made it home with minimal tears. Although, Maya usually loves the water. But today was afraid that it would wash her away and refused to come anywhere near it after initially getting her toes wet. So quite a few tears were shed when I tried to encourage her to try the water. When we got home I found that Nora had a poopsplosion. Then Maya slammed her finger in the back door. She's probably going to lose the nail which will be a tragedy if it's anything like the toenail.

Here's the two pictures I snapped on my phone (since I left the camera in the car with all the other excitement) of Nora's first trip to the beach.

Now onto Nora. She has recently found her hands. They are in her face/mouth all the time.

Selective hearing

4/30
Maya has two favorite questions recently. Why? And what did you say? All the whys seem age appropriate but she was worrying me with the what did you says. Sometimes I'd say something and she'd say what did you say. I repeat and she'd say what did you say. She also had a lot of wax in her ear so I was wondering if it was affecting her hearing. I sent an email to her pediatrician who recommended I bring her in just to check her out. So today she had a hearing test (it was the one they usually use on the 4/5 year olds, her pediatrician was like oh she will be able to do it no problem). She passed. And then the doctor cleaned out one of her ears because she couldn't see the eardrum. It was a less than pleasant experience for Maya. But she did a great job of being still. The doctor diagnosed her with selective hearing. After the appointment, we went to Maya's favorite restaurant for lunch. Then came home for naps. After nap, Maya played in the sprinkler with her new suit. Nora has one that matches but it's still a little big.

(She also asked me how animal babies came out of their mom's tummies if they didn't go to a hospital. That's a good question.)

Wearing their matching outfits. I need to get a better picture of them together

Derek's Birthday

4/29
Derek's birthday was today. Maya was so excited. Last night when she was getting ready for bed she was so upset because "dad has to work tomorrow on his birthday and I won't even get to see him at all." She fortunately did get to see him, in the morning and evening (just like almost every week day). Birthdays are just more fun with kids. We made him angel food cupcakes with whipped cream frosting and sprinkles. No cake is complete without sprinkles. And what man wouldn't love pink, red, and white hearts and pink sugar on their birthday cupcakes. Maya wanted to get Derek a camping chair since one of ours was broken. I was impressed that she came up with it all on her own.
I love that Nora's checking out the cupcakes

Night owl

My little night owl (aka why I don't blog or clean as often as I might like but she sure is cute) sporting her new PJs. They are 3-6 months. Surely she can't be that big.

Happy Easter/Nora's two months old

4/17
Maya and I bought plastic eggs and candy and dinosaurs to go in them to take to a friends house for Easter. This started the four+ days of Easter. She had to hide them and find them. She wouldn't let me hide them for her. We also had some fun with Nora. Her hat was a little big though.

4/19
We dyed eggs today. Maya was so excited. So very, very excited she being bratty. She was digging through stuff she knows she shouldn't be and generally being whiny. Then I got Nora down for a nap. Maya came running through, tripped over her basket full of plastic eggs. She went flying. The eggs went flying. Nora started crying. Maya was very upset because she woke up Nora and had to wait longer to paint eggs. Then Maya broke the egg crayon on purpose, since gram broke it accidentally last year. Then was upset. I started to wonder why I wanted to color eggs to begin with. Once we finally got started, I think everyone enjoyed it. After we finished the eggs, Maya ate like three of them.

4/20
Easter finally. Maya asked for a chocolate bunny, chocolate eggs and jelly beans. My mom sent some dinosaurs that I stuck in the basket also. She loved them. They are smaller than the ones she already had so now she has moms and babies. She is obsessed with moms and babies. (On Friday night I was looking at what I had for her basket. I took all the tags off the stuff. I put the stuff away but left the tags in the floor. Maya woke up and was like look mom a dinosaur tag. Indeed it is, dear. Stealthy fail.) Nora mostly got boring things like wipes and a burp rag.

2/22
Nora had her two month well baby today. She weighed 10 lbs 11 oz, exactly what Maya did at her two month (although Maya's was a week or so later since we moved). But Nora was 24.5 inches, 2.5 inches longer than Maya was at her two months and 0.25 inches longer than Maya was at 4 months. She is growing out of her 0-3 months stuff in length but is swimming in a lot of the 3-6 months stuff in width. I feel like she went straight from newborn to 3-6. She's getting really good a lifting her head (her huge head, 96th percentile).
