A Date and a Bath Time Predicament

Derek and I took advantage of having family around and went on our first date alone since Maya was born.  Fortunately Maya slept almost the entire time. We ate chinese then frozen yogurt for dessert. At the frozen yogurt place we sat outside and listened to a band play in a nearby bar. It was a pleasant evening. It didn't feel as weird to leave her as I thought it might. I didn't even call home during the two hours we were gone. It was nice to snuggle her when we got home though.

Last night I was cooking so Derek started Maya's bath solo. He got everything ready, put her in, and she immediately peed. He took her out. We got fresh water and he tried again. This time she pooped immediately. Derek got her out again and asked me to take over. I held her while he got fresh water. While we were waiting for her tub to fill, my mom, my brother, and I were laughing at the situation. Maya started laughing because we were laughing. She then pooped again on the counter and she started laughing even harder. It was pretty hilarious.

Difference a Year Makes

What a difference a year makes.
One year ago today:

Today:

We took Maya to "the city" for the first time. Derek and I took turns carrying her in the wrap and she did really well.  Walking around all day wearing her really makes you aware of how much she has grown.

First Visit to the Beach

Maya stuck her toes in the ocean for the first time today.  She wasn't quite sure what to think.  It was pretty cold.

4 Months

Today we celebrated Maya's 4 month "birthday" and my brother's 20th birthday.  Kind of crazy.  I remember when he was Maya's size.

We bought Maya a new toy, a jumper.  She seems to like it. Hopefully it will be worth what I paid for it.  I might be addicted to a certain online classified site.
The birthday girl and boy.

Trying out her new toy.  It makes her look little.

17 Weeks

Maya is 17 weeks today. It's getting more and more difficult to get her picture.  She likes to roll around now. She can roll from belly to back.  She doesn't always want to but she can.  She can roll from back to side.  She can almost get all the way over to her belly but her hand gets in the way.  She has also started arching her back if she doesn't want to lay on her back or go into her car seat. She also now likes to grab her bear and/or try to eat it.
She really likes this lion.

Busy ignoring me.

Late 16 weeks photos taken a little late, after we got home.
I love this expression

Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to Derek and all the other dad's out there.  I treated Derek to breakfast in bed.  I was going to make waffles but the waffle iron is still lost from the move so he got pancakes instead.  Maya and I made him some pictures for his desk:

We arrived home safely late Wednesday.  I started a blog post about our flight home but my phone ate it or something.  Maya fell asleep before the plane even took off and slept until we landed.

16 Weeks

Maya is 16 weeks old today. Maya and I went to visit our best friends from our former home today while stayed with his mom and brother. It's the longest we've been away from Derek since Maya's birth. Kind of weird to spend the day without him but it was great to see our friends. Maya was a sweetie most of the day. She thought that Auntie J was really funny. She was bouncing Maya and Maya kept giggling. It was pretty cute. She also was fascinated by G and E. Maya did have a meltdown as we were getting ready to leave because she was so sleepy. She fell asleep almost immediately when we got on the road and slept for the entire trip back. She then played with Derek's mom before bath and bed. She went down pretty easy. No screaming involved. Since we aren't at home and were out all day we didn't really get any Tuesday photos. Here is one of Maya right now.
Yesterday Derek's grandparents' dog was barking and running around. Maya giggled at him then started crying and then giggling again. She wasn't quite sure what to make of him.
We head home tomorrow. Wish us luck on the flight. Hopefully it goes as well as the last one.

Sleep and Lack Thereof

We arrived safely but later than expected yesterday morning. Maya woke up when we were boarding the plane. She was being cute and everyone already seated was awing her. She was flirting with one guy in particular and I was afraid she was going to spit up on him since she was practically on top of him and had just eaten. Fortunately, she didn't. She nursed and fell asleep as soon as we were seated. She slept the whole way only waking up a couple times to comfort nurse. Derek and I didn't really sleep at all. I was surprisingly awake yesterday. That was thanks to Maya I think. I can function with less these days.  I was afraid of how last night would go. Last time we were here Maya didn't sleep well. I was expecting the worst but it went really well. I set my alarm for 7 hours. It went off and she was still asleep. I was too sleepy to wake her up. I thought I'll get up in a minute. Next thing I knew Maya woke me up an hour later. That's the most I've slept in a year. When I was pregnant, always said that I would sleep more after she was born. Everyone said I was crazy. But it's really been true after the first few weeks. Hopefully this continues.
Maya has been a sweetie. She hasn't been afraid of all the "strangers" and has taken naps pretty well.

Laughing and Waiting

Maya sneezed today and she thought it was hilarious. After that I fake sneezed and it was funny too. She was also giggling about splashing in the tub. Yesterday I had her l laughing by making a stuffed animal attack her.  It is a great sound. She is also showing more hand control. She can grab toys and enjoys batting hanging toys around.
Boarding a plane soon to go visit Derek's family. As typical it was delayed. Maya is currently sleeping in her seat. Hopefully she stays that way. Otherwise we will be not so popular. Nothing like a screaming baby on a red eye. On the way in the security people were awing Maya, talking about her cute cheeks. And the couple sitting beside us earlier were talking about how cute she is. We sure think so.
Maya has recently started showing stranger danger. She's cried the last two times someone other than me or Derek ha tried to hold her. We will see how she does with family.

15 Weeks

Maya is 15 weeks today.  I can't believe that it's been that long.  Maya had a great day again on Sunday.  But then Monday and today she didn't want to sleep again.  However, even with some fussiness it was an exciting day.  Monday Maya rolled over again every time I would put her on her stomach.  Then today, Maya showed off a few new skills for us.  Fortunately, we caught them on camera so I'll just let her show you too.

A Happier Peanut

We were pretty lazy today.  We lounged around the house and watched soccer.  Then in the evening we went shopping.  Maya was a sweetie all day.  She was full of smiles when she was awake.  And she went to sleep without screaming for all of her naps.  She cried a little bit at bedtime but nothing rocking and singing couldn't take care of.  I really need to learn some more lullabies though.

Maya is really starting to show an interest in her toys.  She doesn't reach for stuff yet.  But if you put it on her chest or beside her, she frequently accidently grabs it and chews on it.  Last night, Derek was holding Maya and talking to me while I cooked pasta.  I thought that she might be interested in me shaking the box since she's into rattles, but instead it startled her.  She about jumped out of Derek's arms everytime.  It was pretty funny.  She also loves to suck on wash cloths when we give her a bath.  Tonight she got more water than she expected and got choked a bit.  She still hasn't rolled over as much as she did a week ago.  She's done it a time or two but not consistently like the day I made the videos.  I think she could roll from back to belly if she wanted to.  She frequently roll from her back to her side.  She's growing up to fast.  She starting to grow into the small 3-6 months clothes but is still mostly wearing 0-3 and a few of the large newborn things.  Her soccer shirt below is 3-6.

(Maya and I slept through most of it)
Despite the team's loss Maya was happy
The diaper covers arrived yesterday.  We tried them out this morning with the fitted.  I need to learn to fold flat and prefolded diapers to fit in them.  So far no leaks with the cloth.  I'm still not sure if I want to go all in on them.  We bought some size 1-2 diapers, which are in between size 1 and size 2, for our upcoming trip to see Derek's family. Hopefully they will fit better.  Explosive poops on a plane don't sound like fun.

This is Maya from Thursday.  This is pretty representative of how she's been the past two weeks.  I love her and someday I will probably miss this but it's exhausting.

Getting a Little Crunchy

Wednesday, we tried out our cloth diapers.  I think I need to buy a few more before really making a decision on them.  I guess that is a down side.  Maybe after my covers get here, which will hopefully be Saturday, we can have enough for a day with the prefolds and flats that we already have and this will give me a better idea of if I like them.  The green diaper, that Maya is modeling below, is apparently a stuffable all in one diaper rather than the pocket diaper as I originally thought.  It can be worn as is or stuffed with an extra absorbent layer for overnight.  She wore it with the extra absorbent layer so it looks a little puffy.  She christened it shortly after I put it on but we had no leaks.  Thats more than I can say about the disposable diapers she was wearing this morning.  Of the 3 dirty diapers I changed before noon today, two leaked onto her clothes and one of those went all the way through to our sheets.  Have I mentioned that I'm not impressed with size 1 diapers.  We've had nothing but leaks since she grew out of the newborn size.  We've tried a number of brands all with similar results.  But enough about diapers.

Maya and I had a decent day today.  In the future we will have to work on where she naps but for now we are working on just getting her to nap.  Two out of her three naps today were pretty painless and she went to sleep easily tonight.  She and I took a spin with her new stroller this afternoon.  She fell asleep after a couple of blocks so I think she approves.  The nice thing about the travel system is that she was asleep and strapped into her carseat.  We decided to take advantage of this to pick up Derek and exchange a few things while we were out.  The down side of the stroller is that it is large and didn't really fit well down the aisles of the store we visited.  The more difficult nap today was saved by the wrap.  I plopped her in while I made lunch and she was out of it shortly thereafter.  Between the wrap and cloth diapers I might be getting a little crunchy.

Someone suggested that the recent sleep trouble might be caused by teething.  I don't think this is the case.  And I hope it's not.  I'm not ready for teeth.  She's not really showing any signs of teething.  I think she's just too curious for her own good.
