Happy (belated) Father's Day

6/15
With just getting back in town and everything else that's going on Father's day was pretty low key this year. Derek got breakfast (waffles and strawberries) in bed. I got up with Maya while Derek (who usually gets up with her) stayed in bed. Maya helped me cook. She made him a card a playschool. She drew a picture of Derek. She was like I drew his bottom and weewee. That's great dear. Maybe you should draw his clothes too.

I somehow managed not to get any pictures of Derek with the girls on Father's day. But here's one with Maya a few days before her first Father's day with him and one with Nora a few days after. The girls don't really look anything alike in these to me.

(We'll just pretend that the photos below were taken in time for Father's Day, rather than sometime later in July)

Nora is 16 weeks

6/12
Derek stayed home today and we had a lazy sort of day. Grocery shopping. Nora's 16 weeks photo shoot. (She is such a happy baby, always smiling, and working really hard on sitting up.) Did a bit of painting. Tomorrow it's back to "normal". Derek goes back to work. I have a chiropractor appointment. Maya has playschool. Then Sunday is Father's Day and my brother and his family are coming out to visit for a week.

Nora's first Tri State tour, part 3

6/7
We left our friends' house today. It's always tough to leave. Maya didn't want to leave. We survived the long drive part two. Nora got to meet her great grandparents on Derek's mom's side. We stayed with Derek's grandparents. His parents drove up too so our was a full house. They had a nest with three baby birds in it right outside the kitchen window. They were so ugly they were cute. Maya really enjoyed watching the mom and dad feed the babies.

6/8
We took a short drive today to introduce Nora to Derek's dad's side of the family. Maya met Derek's brother for the first time too. We may have stopped for ice cream on the way back.

6/9
We went to the zoo today with Gram (Derek's mom). Once Maya remembered that she had a Popsicle there the last time we were there, she needed one right away. It was Nora's first trip to the zoo I guess. She was unimpressed.

6/10
Tomorrow is Gram's birthday. Since we leave to head home tomorrow we had her a party tonight. Maya was super excited. We had to get a card, balloons and a gift. And there was cake and people for her to talk to.

6/11
We are finally home. We boarded the plane. Then Nora pooped. It leaked so I changed her. As I'm about to fasten her diaper she peed. It went all over her and her clean clothes. Get her all cleaned up. Maya had a meltdown because I forgot to take her pillow out of the checked bag. Nora had a meltdown because she was over tired. We were those people on the airplane. Much screaming/crying and a few naps later we are home. I don't want to fly again for a while.

A year ago today, I got a positive pregnancy test. Now we have this little cutie.

Nora's first Tri State tour, part 2

6/4
We survived a 375ish mile trip with a 3 year olds and a 3 month old. Maya is a great traveler and Nora didn't scream nearly as much as I expected. She really did quite well until the last hour or two. We made it into town just in time for Bible study at our old church. (It was great to see everyone. Some that didn't even know about Nora. ) I miss that place. At church Auntie j got to hold Nora before uncle j. (He got to hold Maya first so I guess that's fair.) Maya finally lost her finger nail that she smashed in the back door. I found it on the floor after church. It looks like to the new nail has been growthing under the old. She did not freak out so that was good. And we are finally found with the bandaid battle.

6/5
We are enjoying time with our friends in the state 2. We visited or adopted parents today. Then played at the park. Then we played in the yard after that. Maya ended up with a number of splinters in her foot. Uncle j helped Derek dig them out since I was dealing with Nora. Maya handled it well but there were still tears and screaming. After some mom snuggles and an ice cream sandwich she recovered. I then found a tick on my leg. I called Derek to come deal with it. That sucker was really hanging on. I handled it with almost as much grace as Maya. Yuck yuck yuck.
In Nora news, she is 15 weeks old. And as cute as can be.

6/6
Nora started rolling back to tummy today. She's been close for a little while but couldn't get her arm out to get all the way over. Then today I put her on her back on the floor mat and turned my back for a second. When I turned back around she was on her tummy. She has done it a number of times now. She still seems a little confused about it. And it sometimes annoys her that she's on her tummy even though she can roll belly to back she sometimes just cries about it instead. I'm probably a horrible person for posting this and Nora will one day hate me for it but here it is Nora rolling over:

We met with my advisor from grad school today. And also got to see an old labmate as well. Makes me almost miss grad school. Maya then played in the fountain on campus a bit. We stopped for a snack before meeting our friends at a bouncy slide playplace. Maya feel asleep mid chew she was so tired. We woke her up to play. She seemed to enjoy it this time. Last time we'd tried she was afraid of them.

Nora's first Tri State tour, part 1

5/24
Today's the start of our tri state tour. This is Nora's first time flying. Last night I kept dreaming that we forgot to bring her with us, that we left her sleeping at home. Happy to report that was not the case. Both Maya and Nora did really well on the shuttle to the airport and on the flights. Gram and Pop pop (Derek's parents) were excited to see the girls.

5/25
Gram and pop pop have a pool in their neighborhood. Maya was very excited about it. She's my little fish and would swim every day. Nora and I hung out in the shade and enjoyed people watching.

5/26
Maya and Gram made cookies today. Then Maya wanted to go swimming again. Nora was napping so I stayed at home with her. She woke up and we took a few pictures and then she was ready for another nap. I think she's still recovering from the traveling/time change.

Maya and Derek are pretty tuckered too

5/28
We left Derek's parents' house today for my mom's house. Since we don't have a car, we met in the middle at an outlet mall for the exchange. We drove about an hour, did some shopping, had lunch, and drove some more. Nora got to meet two of her uncles, her aunt, her cousins, and various extended family. Maya was very excited to see everyone.

5/29
Nora turned 14 weeks. She met my grandma (who is 96) and another uncle today. Maya is loving having all these cousins around to play with.
trying so hard to roll

5/30
Today was my nephew's birthday. We had a small party for him at my moms. The had a water fight. You could hear the giggling for miles.

5/31

6/3
We had planned to pick up some cinnamon raisin biscuits and go to the park for a picnic. For some reason everyone got out at restaurant. We decided just to eat there and go to the park later. It turned out to be a good choice. While we were eating it rained. It had stopped by the time we were finished so we still went to the park. We had a nice family dinner in the evening with my mom, brothers, sister in law, two nieces, nephew and the four of us. My mom's house/table seems to be getting smaller.

6/4
We leave today. We woke everyone up for morning goodbyes and then had breakfast at my grandmothers. (Maya is still talking about having breakfast at grandma's)
