The Birthday Peanut

Then

And now

As I mentioned before, Maya was sick all week. She was still reasonably happy during the day. The night was rough. The night before her birthday we snuggled on the couch all night because she would scream any time I put her down. I didn't sleep much, much like the same night a year ago. Since it was unlike her previous colds, I called  her pediatrician first thing in the morning. The advice nurse said she sounds like she has a cold/croup, to keep an eye on her breathing, and to go ahead with her well baby check on the 23rd. Since I was up all night and Derek didn't get much sleep either, he worked from home so that he could help me out when needed. We had a lazy sort of day. Maya opened presents after her morning nap and played with her new toys most of the day. We took a short walk around the neighborhood in the afternoon. And enjoyed cupcakes in the evening. Here's the day's highlights in video.

On Saturday She Ate Through One Carrot Cake

Actually she didn't really seem to care for the cake. The cream cheese frosting however was a hit. The balloons were also popular.

Happy birthday

Happy first birthday, peanut. We love you. We are sorry that you are sick on your special day. Hopefully your future birthdays will be better. (We have photos and video that we will post when our evenings return to normal. Maya doesn't want to be put down right now so nights are ironically very much like a year ago.)

Also happy third birthday to little G. We wish we could be there to celebrate with you.

Three New Teeth and Other Fun

Once again I've been slacking on the blogging so here is a summary of what we've been up to.

First off Maya has been cutting teeth. She has three new ones. One poked through on her top right last Saturday (2/11). Then one on her top left on Thursday (2/16).  And another on her bottom right came in today (2/18). She's at four on top and three on bottom. I suspect the fourth one on the bottom will be in soon.

We installed Maya's new big girl car seat since she was getting too tall for her infant seat.

We bought a backpack carrier and tried it out on a short hike. Maya and Derek seemed to like it. But Maya preferred to run around.

We spent the afternoon playing ball, blowing bubbles, and playing in the rocks in the back yard.

Maya loves to shake her head no. It's pretty cute right now. I'm sure in a few months I'll change my mind.

Coming up, hopefully soon, birthday pictures and video.

11 Months and another Tooth

Maya turned 11 months on the 22nd and she started walking around everywhere that day. When we were taking pictures with her bear she refused to let it sit up. She would knock it down and/or throw it every time we tried to sit it by her. Then she tried to pull the sheets down. After she succeeded, she pulled up on the chair that was supporting them and walked away. We didn't get too many pictures with all this.

Carrying around a sock while we were getting ready to make pictures.

On the 24th, Maya and I went to the library for storytime then out to lunch with some of the other moms. We enjoyed it and hopefully will have the opportunity to do it again soon. After lunch we went grocery shopping. By the time we made it home, I felt a backache coming on. I assumed I would have some pain for a couple of days and then be fine again like last month. But by Friday, it was still getting worse. Derek and I joked that I was going to be one of those people pain medicine seeking people that go to the er in the middle of the night for a backache that they've had all week. If it weren't for Maya, I probably would have been in search of something. I thought that there really isn't much they can give me while I'm nursing. Instead, per my mom's suggestion, I found a chiropractor instead. I had to wait until today to get in so I spent all weekend moaning and puffing. Maya started mocking me. It was pretty funny. Apparently I have some discs misbehaving. I'm sporting a stylish brace and ice packs. Thankfully, I'm feeling some relief already. I'm looking forward to being able to get down and play with Maya again and being able to pick her up without pain. Maya and Derek spent the morning rocking out to some music. Maya has apparently learned to dance.

On the 29th, her fourth tooth finally cut through. Her sleep still hasn't really improved. Poor Derek has been getting up with her a lot more the last week since I've been in so much pain.
